Mini biography:
As a pretty, wholesome teenager, this Austrian-born actress achieved European stardom by portraying youthful royalty. Born into a distinguished theatrical family (her mother Magda Schneider was a great star of stage and screen), she played Britain's Queen Victoria in The Story of Vickie (1954) and Austria's Princess Elizabeth in Sissi (1956, and 1957 and 1958 sequels). Director Luchino Visconti gave her a more mature, substantive role in his segment of Boccaccio '70 (1962), and she appeared in Orson Welles' adaptation of Kafka's The Trial the next year, effectively launching her "adult" career. The beautiful, multilingual Schneider chalked up a string of prominent parts in international productions such as The Victors, The Cardinal (both also 1963), Good Neighbor Sam (1964), What's New, Pussycat? (1965), Triple Cross (1967), Otley, The Swimming Pool (both 1969), and The Things of Life (1970).
